Missouri Highpoint - Taum Sauk Mountain

Southern Missouri was a pleasant surprise. We found ourselves traveling across the state during a winter weather advisory (we seem to bring huge storms to many of our highpoints), but the scenary was nice. We came across a really cool park, Elephant Rocks. We stopped and spent some time enjoying the park (the freezing rain also seemed to keep the crowds away). I would recommend a visit to this park to anyone going to this highpoint since it isn't very far away.

The highpoint is a very nice and quiet place. Missouri keeps the highpoint in beautiful condition. There is a picturesque winding trail that leads to the highpoint stone and sign. There are clean restrooms and even trailmaps at the trailhead. The woods were covered with snow and we had the place to ourselves on our visit.

On the way back out, we went by to visit Jakk Longacre (the Highpointers Club founder who lives very close to this highpoint), but no one was home. He has a great location.
