Oklahoma Highpoint - Black Mesa
June 29, 2001

A nice marker for the state highpoint, but not much of a view.
Black Mesa, the highest point in Oklahoma, is a fairly easy hike. It is mostly a flat hike except for the section that works up the side of the mesa. In late June this is a very hot hike and requires a lot of water. The trail initially meanders around the edge of the mesa on an old Jeep trail. It works around to the edge of the mesa and then up the side of the mesa with a single switchback. Once on top, it takes another 15 minutes or so of hiking to reach the marker.
