Texas Highpoint - Guadelupe Peak
June 17, 2001
8,749 feet

El Capitan is an ancient fossilized ocean reef.
Tammy and I did this highpoint on a clear and hot summer day. The hike moves up from the trailhead through a series of switchbacks. It is very hot in this area during the summer months and a lot of water is required. The top half of the hike has very nice views of the surrounding landscape. The hike is mostly in the sun with an occassional shade tree for relief. At the top we met a couple of University of Georgia students from Alpharetta, GA.
At the top is a monument placed there by American
Airlines.
Nice views and, oh yeah, you can see the desert too.
